How to Maintain Your Hair Patch for Long-Lasting Results

A good hair patch can look completely natural – but like your own hair, it needs the right care. A little routine goes a long way in keeping the hairline invisible, the colour rich and the base comfortable.

Daily care

  • Brush gently. Use a soft, wide-tooth comb or a loop brush and always start from the ends, working upwards. Never tug at the hairline.
  • Go easy on heat. If you use a dryer or straightener, keep it on a low setting and always use a heat protectant spray.
  • Use light products. Water-based styling products are easier to wash out and won’t weaken the bond.

Washing

Wash two or three times a week with a mild, sulphate-free shampoo and conditioner. Apply shampoo in the direction of the hair, rinse with lukewarm (not hot) water, and pat dry with a towel instead of rubbing. Keep conditioner away from the base and bonding area.

While you sleep, swim and exercise

  • Sleep on a silk or satin pillowcase to reduce friction and tangling.
  • Rinse the hair with clean water after swimming – chlorine and salt water dry hair out quickly.
  • After a workout, let the scalp breathe and dry naturally; sweat left in the base can loosen the bond.

Regular servicing

Most hair systems need professional maintenance every few weeks, depending on the base type and your lifestyle. During servicing, the patch is cleaned, the bond is renewed and the hair is restyled so it continues to blend with your own. Skipping appointments is the most common reason a patch starts to look less natural.

When to replace it

With good care a hair patch lasts several months. Thinning hair density, a lifting hairline or a base that no longer feels comfortable are signs it is time for a new system. Our specialists can advise you at your next visit.
